According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the New York Giants will bring in Mitchell Trubisky to compete with Daniel Jones for the starting quarterback job.

"Quick note on a QB not named [Russell] Wilson or [Aaron] Rodgers: Spoke to a team in the thick of it for a competitive backup QB in free agency, and they have a strong belief that Mitchell Trubisky is going to end up with the New York Giants and competing with Daniel Jones for the starting job."

After four seasons with the Chicago Bears, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky will be a free agent in 2021.

Trubisky was the second overall pick in the draft. He took over as the starter in Week 5.

Trubisky completed 64 percent of his passes in four seasons with Chicago. He averaged 6.7 yards per attempt. He had 1,057 yards and eight scores.

Trubisky became a free agent after the Bears declined to pick up his fifth-year option. He saw little action behind Allen as the Bills won their second straight title.

A Buffalo exodus to New Jersey has happened this winter, with the former Bills assistant general manager now in charge of the Giants. The head coach was brought on board by him.

The team's new quarterbacks coach worked on the offensive staff last year, and the team's first signing (running back Antonio Williams) was also an ex-Bill.

The Giants are looking for a backup quarterback after both Glennon and Jake Fromm struggled while backing up Jones, who suffered a season-ending neck injury in November.

Jones is a passer who can also make plays with his feet. He is susceptible to bad decisions at his worst.

His offensive lines have more often than not failed to give him adequate protection, so the jury is still out on the first-round pick.

As they try to find their franchise signal-caller, the Giants have a lot of options. They could ride with Jones, see what Trubisky has to offer, pick a quarterback in this year's draft, or wait until 2023 to get a quarterback.

After a disappointing 4-13 season, the Giants are working on their way back, and they have a lot of holes. Picking up Trubisky would be a good start since it would address only one of them.
