According to federal prosecutors, one Proud Boys leader said "It's time for fuck War if they steal this shit." They had to deal with a membership problem. They created aMinistry of Self DefenseProspect Group, which would recruit potential members. According to the indictment, its unofficial recruitment motto is "fit in, or fuck off." Both invitation-only ministries used public social media channels to raise funds and plan the Proud Boys presence at the January 6 insurrection, according to the indictment. Tarrio posted on social media eight days before the attack on the Capitol that the Proud Boys would turn out in record numbers. Tarrio wrote that we will not be wearing our traditional Black and Yellow. We might dress in all black for the occasion. The top-tier leaders had a nine-page plan to occupy a few critical buildings in DC that day, including House and Senate office buildings around the Capitol, with as many people as possible. The leaders focused on that plan. One leader posted on the Ministry of Self Defense chat that the main operating theater should be in front of the house of representatives. The vote is taking place at the front entrance of the Capitol building. Tarrio said that he didn't hear the voice note until now and that he wanted to storm the Capitol. After Tarrio was arrested on a DC Superior Court warrant, the Proud Boys leadership scrambled to cover their tracks. The indictment alleges that co-defendant Charles Donohue warned the others to clear out the group's chats because "everything is compromised and we can be looking at Gang charges." The indictment said to stop everything immediately. The group would use hand-held radios. Tarrio was charged with burning a Black Lives Matter banner days before the attack.
