Evan's family filed a lawsuit against his employer, Kroger, saying he was driven to suicide by harassment from his managers. His death anniversary is Wednesday. In-person protests are planned in 15 cities, including Cincinnati, by the group Justice for Evan. The leader of the group said that the death of Seyfried put a spotlight on workplace harassment and organization mobbing. He was mistreated by his manager. Murphy said that his death was preventable. She said that Kroger didn't protect him because he was a whistle blower. The wrongful death lawsuit is still pending in the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. Murphy said that he was a good person. "Bullies don't like good people," he said. According to the lawsuit, when he wore a mask in the early days of the epidemic, he was ridiculed for his political views, and he was sexually harassed and sent child pornography via text. According to the lawsuit, Seyfried was expecting to be fired but was also worried that his managers and their allies would frame him for a crime like stealing from the store or having child pornography. After 19 years with Kroger and months of harassment, the lawsuit states, Seyfried had a "transient episodic break" and threw away his possessions and walked the streets of Cincinnati for several hours before his parents found him. According to his lawyers, Seyfried agreed to go to the hospital in the morning to get help for his mental illness. He never got there. Evan told his father that his managers were going to get him and that things would get ugly. Murphy said her group wants Kroger to acknowledge responsibility for Evan's death.
