The barras fans will be banned for three years and the club will play home games with no fans for one year as punishment for the violence that occurred at the soccer game. The ownership group of Queretaro will be banned from league-related activities for five years and the club will be returned to previous owners. The current ownership of Queretaro will be fined 1.5 million pesos.
If not sold by the end of the year, it will go under the ownership of Liga MX.
Arriola said at the news conference that measures would be implemented that would mark a before and after in the protocols that must be observed and followed.
Multiple fights broke out in the stands and the match was suspended. Fans, including women and children, were able to escape the violence by opening the gates. 10 people have been arrested on possible charges of violence in a sporting event and attempted homicide.
Nineteen of the 26 people injured have been released. No deaths have been reported.
Atlas-affiliated barras will not be allowed to attend away games for a year, with De Luisa and Arriola banned from away games for six months. A lifetime ban from all Mexican soccer stadiums will be given to anyone found to have been involved in the incident.
Facial recognition technology and fan IDs will be implemented by all of the teams in the 2022-23 season. Minors will not be allowed in the supporters section.
Private security at games will now be provided by the police, as opposed to the state, local and municipal police.
The ongoing Clausura season will not be impacted by the decision of Liga MX to not disaffiliate from Queretaro. The club's youth and women's squad will have to play behind closed doors.
