Dune: Part Two is coming to the surface, and now one of its biggest missing pieces may have been found. According to reports, Florence Pugh is in talks to play Princess Irulan, daughter of the villainous Emperor Shaddam IV, in the sequel.
According to the Hollywood Reporter which broke the news, it is not a done deal. The script hasn't been finished, so she could pass on it, but she's up for the role of Madonna in the Madonna biopic, which will be filming around the same time. Scheduling may be an issue. She has the inside track on the role.
Irulan is a key figure in the world of Dune. If you haven't read the books, we'd say more, but if you have, we'd consider saying more. She is an in-galaxy historian and her words act as the basis for the structure of Frank Herbert's original book.
There are two major roles that need to be cast. The Emperor, Irulan, his father and ruler of the galaxy, as well as the evil nephew of the Harkonnen family, are all present. It's a lot to live up to the role Sting played in David Lynch's film.
The characters who survived the first film are expected to return. Dune: Part One is up for several awards at the ceremony, so it's possible that they will win an Oscar. It sounds like a nice group for the excellent Pugh to join.
