Germany is flexing its muscles.

The German government recently announced a huge increase in military spending. The German Aerospace Center has stopped cooperation with Russia. The Spektr-RG space telescope, a joint mission between Russia and Germany, is the first casualty of the cancellation.

The eROSITA x-ray instrument is operated by Germany. The first all-sky survey in the medium-energy x-ray range was performed by it. Black holes, the large-scale structure of the Universe, and x-ray sources were studied.

On March 3rd, the DLR released a statement stating their position and cancelling their cooperation with the Russian space agency.

As one of the largest research organizations in Europe, the German Aerospace Center is committed to engaging in international cooperation for the benefit of society and industry. There are staff from 96 countries. They support the peaceful co-existence of all nations. Violence should not be used to achieve objectives. We condemn Russia's hostile actions and view the developments in Ukraine with grave concern.

The German Space Agency at DLR has cooperated with Russian institutions on a number of research projects, in some cases with the participation of other German research organizations and universities.
