Reffitt, a Texas man charged with storming the U.S. Capitol with a holstered handgun on his waist, is the first Jan. 6 defendant to go on trial.

A jury on Tuesday convicted the first person to stand trial on charges related to the storming of the U.S. Capitol by a mob of supporters of then- President Donald Trump.

Guy Reffitt, a Texas resident, was found guilty of all five charges in a District Court in Washington, D.C.

After less than four hours of deliberations, jurors found the two counts of civil disorder and one count of obstruction of an official proceeding guilty.

After weeks of false claims by Trump that he had actually won the 2020 presidential election, Reffitt was one of thousands of Trump supporters who invaded the Capitol complex on January 6, 2021.

At a rally outside the White House, where he urged a crowd to march to the Capitol and fight against the confirmation of Biden, Trump repeated those false allegations.

Lawmakers and Vice President Mike Pence fled both chambers of Congress after the riot at the Capitol.

Reffitt is scheduled to be sentenced on June 8 by Judge Friedrich.

More than 200 other Capitol riot defendants were sentenced in the same courthouse before Reffitt went to trial.
