According to sources, the Denver Broncos have agreed to send a significant package to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for quarterback Russell Wilson.
The trade gives Denver the quarterback it has been looking for since Manning retired, and it gives Seattle a foundation to rebuild without the quarterback who led them to their only Super-Bowl title.
Wilson is expected to waive his no-trade clause in order to allow the Seahawks to send him to Denver and end his 10-season run in Seattle that included nine Pro-Bowl selections, one Super Bowl title and more wins than any quarterback ever.
The decision of Rodgers to return to Green Bay has nothing to do with Denver acquiring Russell Wilson. Sources say that George Paton started trade talks with Seattle for Wilson at least two weeks ago. The Broncos and Packers have not discussed a Rodgers trade this season, and the trade for Wilson was unrelated to Rodgers staying in Green Bay.
Wilson was listening to offers from multiple teams. A league source says there are over a dozen teams. Wilson wanted to be a winning program if he moved on. Denver has a lot of offensive pieces and a good defense, which appealed to him.
After John Elway retired, the organization tried for years to find a suitable quarterback, just like they have been trying to find a suitable quarterback since Manning retired. Wilson is 33 years old.
