In his new book, former Attorney General William Barr talks about how his boss would go to lengths to charm guests at meetings.

He was always attentive and would make sure everyone had a Diet Coke. I always accepted that you have to play the hand you are dealt.

While parts of the Barr book focus on disagreements he had with the former president, Barr takes a more sympathetic view of how Trump handled meetings.

Despite allowing the frequent re-litigation of issues, the relaxed, ad hoc meetings in the President's little dining room could be very productive.

In a single morning, Trump was known to watch up to 7 hours of TV, mostly cable news.

Barr recalls the meetings fondly, despite the fact that Trump had the TV on in the background.

The conversation would meander along, winding through numerous diversions, some prompted by a TV item, some by new arrivals, and some by the mysterious workings of the President's stream of consciousness.
