  • The events of Jan 6 did not endanger democracy according to Barr.

  • He blamed Trump for provoking the attack and condemned it as outrageous and despicable.

  • After his election loss, Trump went off the rails, according to Barr.

William Barr, the former Attorney General, stated in his new memoir that he doesn't believe American democracy was threatened by the Capitol riot, even though he condemned the attack as outrageous and despicable.

The new book by Barr, "One Damn Thing After Another," has already caused a backlash from Trump.

Do the events of January 6, 2021, prove that Trump really was an authoritarian dictator? Barr rhetorically asked the reader.

Barr did not believe the election results would be overturned despite his condemnation of the riot.

The republic was not in real danger at the time because the states had cast their electoral votes.

Barr's position puts him at odds with both Democrats and Republicans. Senate Majority LeaderMitch McConnell recently told reporters that the events of January 6 constituted a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimate election.

In December 2020 Barr resigned after he disagreed with Trump. He was a relatively loyal member of the cabinet and issued a summary of the report that suggested that Trump was not involved in the election colluded with Russia.

The former attorney general said in his book that after he lost the presidential election, Trump went off the rails and became prone to conspiratorial thinking.

He went off the rails after losing his grip, he stopped listening to his advisers, and he was surrounded by sycophants.

He held Trump responsible for the attack on the Capitol.

The riots on Capitol Hill were caused by the absurd lengths to which he took his election claim. He said that the forcible breaching of the Capitol by rioters was reprehensible.

Barr does not believe that Trump incited the riot.

I did not think that Trump was inciting violence in the legal sense. It is wrong for one branch of government to encourage a mob to pressure another branch of government while it is performing its constitutional duties.
