According to a peer reviewed study, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines had mild and faded side effects within a day or two.

The researchers found that the most common side effects reported were fatigue, headaches, injection sight pain and chills.

The first months of the U.S. vaccine campaign when nearly 300 million doses were administered resulted in nearly 4,500 deaths.

More than 80% of the deaths reported after vaccination were among people ages 60 and over, a group that already has a higher mortality rate than the general population.

The findings from the vaccine monitoring systems in the U.S. should be taken into account by the CDC.

The findings add to an already substantial body of evidence supporting the safety of the Covid-19 vaccines, especially when considering the risks of actually contracting it. Studies show that people who arevaccinated have a lower chance of catching the virus and dying if they do. The study draws upon VAERS and v-safe, which is important as the database is often misappropriated to spread misinformation about vaccines. VAERS is completely transparent and anyone, not just doctors, can report a side effect to the database and anyone can request the entire database to view. Data from VAERS is often cited without acknowledging its limitations.

What We Don’t Know

There is a comprehensive vaccine safety information. The study looked at data from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. The databases are managed by federal health authorities. The systems rely on self- reporting of side effects, which the researchers acknowledge is not representative of the entire population and cannot be used to determine a causality connection, though it can help flag any potential safety issues. The databases are important tools for the CDC to use when evaluating vaccine safety and to help identify any unexpected events. Over 340,000 reports of adverse events and around 4 million v-safe participants reported reactions after the second shot were received by VAERS in the six months studied. The study found no unexpected signs of adverse events beyond heart inflammation and anaphylaxis, which are already known to be associated with mRNA vaccines. This was described byPhillips, who was not involved in the study.
