White House press secretary Jen Psaki used a contentious question-and-answer session with a Fox News correspondent to refute a string of right-wing media tropes.

While addressing reporters at her daily news briefing on Monday, Ms Psaki was pressed by a Fox News reporter on reports that the Biden administration is looking to backstop a potential ban on Russian oil imports by bringing in a new supply from Iran or Venezuela. Economic sanctions imposed by the Trump administration have prevented both countries from selling oil in the US.

The Biden administration has pledged to do everything they can to reduce the impact that high gas prices have on Americans, but why the US couldn't just do it?

The White House press secretary has responded to similar questions by noting that the federal government has not placed any limits on oil companies' ability to make use of current drilling leases.

The need for the short-term US oil supply to keep up with demand while continuing to push for a shift to renewable, clean energy sources has been cleared by administration officials.

She said that the US is one of the top producers of oil and gas.

She said that they have produced more oil and will continue to do so. The suggestion that we are not allowing companies to drill is incorrect because there are 9,000 approved drilling permits that are not being used.

She said that Mr Biden's executive order prohibiting new drilling permits on federal land is incorrect.

Ninety percent of the drilling permits are on private lands. If there is a desire to drill more, I would suggest you ask the oil companies why they are not using those.

Ms Psaki shot down the question of whether the recent price spike would have been prevented if Mr Biden had not canceled the Canadian gas line.

The Keystone was not an oil field. She said that the oil is still flowing through other means and that it would have nothing to do with the current supply situation.
