In 1999, President Clinton ordered the creation of the Strategic National Stockpile, a series of warehouses in secret locations filled with medical supplies and personal protective equipment to be used in case of a natural disaster or health emergency. According to federal officials, the Stockpile has distributed about 90 percent of its resources. We asked the Department of Health and Human Services why the Stockpile didn't have enough resources to meet the demand for PPE. The Stockpile was not designed for an event of this magnitude. Billions in newly allocated funds from Congress and private contracts will help replenish the Stockpile.

  • Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla says he had a heated debate with a friend.

  • The US would have to wait for an additional 100 million doses.

  • Bourla was told that he represented the US government, which could take measures to enforce its will.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla revealed in a new op-ed published on Forbes that he and former President Donald Trump had a heated debate over whether the US should receive its vaccine doses first.

Bourla said in the op-ed that he and Kushner disagreed over the supply time for an additional 100 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 jab. The conflict arose because the US was topping up on its original order of 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, but other countries had already signed contracts with Pfizer to secure their vaccine doses, Bourla wrote.

A documentary later revealed that young volunteers buying PPE with personal email accounts were part of the COVID-19 shadow task force.

Jared was asking for a very aggressive delivery plan to the US. We had to take supplies from Canada, Japan, and Latin American countries because he wanted it all in the second quarter of 2021.

Bourla said that the debate between himself and Kushner became heated when he refused. The Pfizer CEO made it clear to Moncef Slaoui, the chief adviser of the Trump team, that Pfizer would not take doses from other countries to give them.

Bourla wrote thatJared didn't budge.

America was coming first no matter what. He reminded me that they could take measures to enforce their will if they wanted to.

Bourla wrote that he replied "Be my guest" to Kushner. I would rather have Japan's prime minister complain about the cancellation of the Olympics than me.

The CEO said that the disagreement ended when Pfizer's manufacturing team was able to deliver extra doses to the US without cutting the supply of other countries.

Bourla wrote thatJared called him two days later from Mar-a-Lago to thank him for the collaboration.

The additional 100 million Pfizer vaccine doses were finally struck in December of 2021.
