I like chicken nuggets. I live off of them. I have a hard time feeding myself, and I am generally a picky eater, so nuggets help me stay hydrated on the most challenging days. Thanks to the alternative meat movement, I have developed an affinity for most soy-based or mushroom-based patties with a bit of seasoning on top. They are hard to distinguish from meat. I prefer them over the real thing. That's why I was curious about Impossible Foods. I used to eat plant-based dinosaur-shaped nuggets when I was a kid, but they are not plant-based anymore. I enjoy Quorn's meatless nuggets with my family. I figured we'd be the perfect guinea pigs for Impossible Food because we're constantly finding excuses to go to Burger King for the Impossible Whopper. We finished off the whole bag. I will say that the Wild Nuggies are delicious. My husband and I ate all of the food that Impossible Foods sent us. I tried to get my kid to try one of these, but she wouldn't take them like the Quorn brand.Yummy Nugs
I'll keep trying to convince her that the Wild Nuggies are critical to the survival of animals. The animals include the Black Rhino, the Galapagos Tortoise, and the North Atlantic Right Whale. Dinosaurs are an extinct species, so that concept may be a little heavy for a young kid. The things taste like the old ones.
I would cook any kind of nug. I baked them on top of the sheet of paper. I put the oven to 400 because I like a darker bake. I always tell people not to microwave or air fry the nuggets because they don't like soggy food.
The ingredients list shows that Wild Nuggies are mostly wheat flour and soy. My family likes the Quorn nuggets, but they are made from mushrooms. It sounds unappetizing that other faux-nuggets, like Kentucky Fried Chicken's Beyond nuggets, are made with a mishmashed. I haven't been able to compare those to those that our colleagues at The Takeout wrote up.
My husband and I had no problem tasting the Wild Nuggies because we have enjoyed so many Impossible burgers before. I was happy with the way they cooked. They were soft on the outside and hard on the inside.
I put the Wild Nuggies with cross-cut fries into a variety of sauces, including barbecue sauce, regular ketchup, and America's favorite, Hidden Valley Ranch. The Wild Nuggies were delicious. They are less dense than what I get out of a bite with Quorn, and that may be why there is a feeling to it. Whatever I was eating, it was very big.
It fooled my husband too, but he wasn't swayed away from Quorn. He said that it was not Quorn and that the flavor was more neutral.
I was not surprised that I liked the Wild Nuggies. It landed its food in the rotation of some fast restaurants because of its positive track record. It's a testament to how much plant-based meat has evolved since it became a concept.
For me, food that's easy to eat like this is a blessing for the days when getting anything down your gullet feels like a chore. I was disappointed I couldn't get my daughter to try out the Wild Nuggies, but I am happy I will be able to add some.
