He ignored her explanation that she offered to show him proof that she was a service dog. He said that if the dog stayed inside, he would mark the cats with markers and ordered her out of the store. She claims that he dared her to file a lawsuit when she told him he was violating the Americans With Disabilities Act. I left because I was not going to argue with him. It was brief. He did not care. It made me feel bad. I was happy to be able to leave the house. While proprietors have the right to refuse service to anyone, the ADA forbids businesses from ordering the disabled and their service dogs off the premises, unless the animal is out of control and the handler is unable to take control of it. When there is a legitimate reason to ask a service animal to be removed, the business must offer the person with the disability the chance to get goods or services without the animal present.
