Experts say that Kansans are paying more at the pump because of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

The average price for a gallon of gas in Topeka went up by 40 cents a gallon in a month and by 15 cents a gallon in a week.

Drivers with a 15-gallon gas tank are spending more to fill up than they were a week ago.

The spike in gas prices is a nationwide phenomenon, according to Shawn Steward, spokesman forAAA Kansas.

Why are gas prices going up?

The increase is the result of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The US is the largest oil producer in the world.

The global oil market has been affected by last week&s attack and the subsequent series of financial sanctions imposed by the U.S. and its allies upon Russia.

According to oilprice.com, the international standard for oil prices rose to more than $100 per barrel on Monday.

The record high price ofBrent crude was set in 2008.

When the price of oil goes up, so does the price of gas.

He said crude oil prices over the past decade have determined half of the price of gas.

The price is affected by refinery and distribution costs, corporate profits, and state and federal taxes.

In the three weeks prior to last week, gas prices in Topeka and Kansas had already risen significantly, at a time when oil prices rose to $90 a barrel before the potential of an invasion of Ukraine came to light.

He said that global gasoline demand had been on the rise, and that oil prices last fall were in the $60-$65 range.

How high will gas prices go?

USA Today reported that experts think gas prices could go as high as $4 a gallon by early spring in some states.

It was said that prices will fall to $3.30 a gallon in the second half of the year after climbing to $4 a gallon in the second quarter.

USA Today quoted President Joe Biden as saying that he is working to prevent a rise in gas prices caused by the invasion.

Biden said that his administration was using every tool at its disposal to protect American businesses and consumers from rising prices at the pump.

How much oil does the U.S. get from Russia?

The US gets 3% of its oil from Russia.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, about 7% of Russia's gross petroleum imports went to the U.S.

Mike Pompeo blames Biden for the Ukraine war, but he calls Putin a dictator.

Canada, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries are some of the sources of oil the US imports.

What's next in terms of travel?

Despite the recent price hikes, Kansas still has the 11th cheapest gas prices in the nation.

He said it was not clear what effect gas prices would have on Americans' travel plans.

Last summer was a very busy time for road trips and vacations.

He said research shows that higher gas prices won't affect travel in the U.S.

Motorists would continue to get out on the road, but would try to save money by staying at campgrounds or less expensive hotels.
