NBC News anchor and host of the "Today" show, SAVANNAH GUERIN, pressed former Attorney General William Barr why he decided to include positive remarks about former President Trump in his 2020 resignation letter.

You say in your book that you were worried about the peaceful transition of power. During his first live television interview since leaving the Trump administration, Barr was asked if he had national security concerns. Did the American people not deserve to know what you knew?

The 2020 election was already over by the time Barr resigned, he said.

In his forthcoming book, Barr claims that he told the president that he was beingbullshit when he floated theories of widespread voter fraud in the weeks following the election.

The idea that something could be done on Jan. 6 was nonsense, Barr said.

As part of his efforts to promote the book, Barr last week granted an extensive sit-down interview with NBC's Lester Holt, during which he suggested that Trump was responsible for the attack on the U.S. Capitol and shot down the former president.

In a letter responding to a request for comment on Barr's remarks from NBC News over the weekend, Trump said his former attorney general is groveling for the media, hoping to gain acceptance that he doesn't deserve.

Barr was asked if Trump was on an image rehabilitation tour with a lawyerly flair.

People who know me know that I don't care what people think of me. I don't have a future job. I retired and felt I could call them whenever I wanted.
