In a week in which speed has been the big story at the NFL scouting combine, two defensive backs put an exclamation point on the affair Sunday.

Two players ran the fastest 40-yard dash times in the history of the combine. Barnes' official 4.23 time is the fastest ever for a defensive back and he is now considered the second-fastest time ever for a wide receiver.

Barnes, who played in 41 games for the Bears, was the second player to run and caused a stir among the fans in the stands as he crossed the finish line in both of his attempts.

Woolen ran an official 4.26 and Barnes ran his best 40 on his second attempt. Woolen's run, at least to some personnel executives, will be even a little more celebrated because he did it as one of the biggest corners in the draft, and he tied for the fourth-fastest 40-yard dash in the event's history.

Woolen, a wide receiver until he played the last game of the season at corner, has a defensive lineman-esque arm span of 81 inches.

He was asked Saturday what he would do if he were one of the fastest players in attendance, and he said: "It will be good, good, but y'all will just have to see." I feel like it will be good.

Woolen was asked how he could be so fast when tall players have not always run well among the defensive backs at the combine before.

The week at the combine was capped off by the fact that eight wide receivers were timed under four seconds in the 40 and 12 offensive linemen were timed under five seconds.

While Ahmad Sauce didn't need much of anything to boost his draft stock, he still put up the best all-around day for the corners. In the 40-yard dash, he ran an official 4.41 and handled the position drills with ease.

The top defensive player in the combine was the No. 5 player in the rankings.

Some scouts were not happy with the truth of the surprising times. After the combine, teams will compare the official times to their own on site, as well as the gps data they accumulated during the season and at the Senior Bowl.

Notre Dame's Kyle Hamilton, the consensus top safety on the board, worked out on Sunday, the fourth and final day of on-field work at the combine.
