The Trucker Convoy Is Circling Washington DC To Slow Down Traffic In Protest Of Vaccine Restrictions

The DC area was likened to enemy territory by some participants who said corrupt politicians were looking for an excuse to arrest the truckers. The people who were arrested after the riots were referred to as political prisoners.

They want the government to restore our Constitution and end the state of emergency that has been in place since March 2020. In most of the US, the effects of the emergency notice are mostly technical. The national state of emergency allows the federal government to issue COVID grants and waivers to rules and regulations, such as allowing expanded telehealth services, or for a hospital to conduct screenings offsite to limit the spread of the disease.

The FDA's emergency use designation would be stopped if the state of emergency was ended. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which were initially approved for emergency use, but have since gained full FDA approval, would not be affected.

The national state of emergency was extended by the Biden administration, but they have not given any indication that they will meet protester demands.

The protesters have less cash than their Canadian counterparts. A goal of $5 million was set by the group. According to their website, they have raised less than half of their goal and only a small amount was donated to the Canadian convoy protesters.

The convoy's ability to make headlines and grab attention has been hampered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Vaccine and mask mandates have mostly been dropped in the US, even in parts of the country led by Democrats.

Several convoys launched across the United States in the wake of the success of the Canadian truck drivers. A lack of participants doomed most. The People's Convoy started out with modest numbers in California and spent 11 days moving across the country. People from other aborted demonstrations joined up as the last convoy stood.

The end goal was not known until this weekend, and there is still confusion about how long the protest will last. After circling the Beltway Sunday, the drivers plan to return to Hagerstown to fuel up and sleep. The protesters don't know what will happen next.
