A large part of Kentucky's recruiting class was lost on Sunday.
Skyy Clark, a point guard for John Calipari, decommits from the program. As he reopens his recruitment, Tipton shared Clark's statement.
Clark is a 5-star prospect, the 27th overall player, the 5th point guard, and the 7th player from the state of Florida.
Clark is the third player to decommit from Kentucky since Calipari took over. DJ Jeffries, who plays for Mississippi State after playing for Memphis, did it in 2019.
This is a big loss for the team.
The point guard was projected as a future first-round NBA draft pick by Jerry Meyer, who pointed to three-time All-Star Bradley Beal as a player comparison. Clark has the ability to score by shooting from the outside or attacking the rim, and he is strong enough to finish through contact.
Throw in his ability to distribute and get out in transition while defending multiple positions if needed, and there is a lot to like about his game.
Chris Livingston, a small forward and combo guard, are both 5-star recruits by Kentucky. Someone else will have to fill that role when the class takes the court because Clark is someone who could have put them in ideal scoring position by drawing multiple defenders in.
Clark looked at several other schools before choosing to attend the University of Kentucky, so perhaps he will look at those schools again with Sunday's decision.
The current Kentucky team is a realistic Final Four candidate, with the conference tournament slated to begin Wednesday.
