Ben Simmons will not return to the court in Philadelphia until the playoffs or next season, according to reports.
Simmons will not play for the Brooklyn Nets during their road game against the Philadelphia 76ers because of his back issues, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Simmons will be with the team, according to Steve Nash.
Simmons will probably not be welcomed by Philadelphia with open arms when he returns to play on the road against the team that drafted him.
After all, the saga surrounding him included a trade request, critical comments from Joel Embiid and head coach Doc Rivers after a playoff loss to the Atlanta Hawks, a team-issued suspension after he was kicked out of a practice and Simmons saying he wasn't mentally prepared yet to take.
The 76ers traded Simmons, Curry, and other players to the Nets for James Harden and Paul Millsap and now look like a legitimate title contender.
Things have not been as great for the Nets.
Brooklyn is in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The season has been defined by on-court attrition that included injury concerns for Harden before he was traded, a knee injury for Kevin Durant and a lack ofvaccinated Irving.
Simmons is yet to play a game, while Joe Harris is out for the season.
The LSU product needs to get on the floor so he can get used to playing with his new teammates before the playoffs. When the Nets return from a three-game road trip that ends in Philadelphia, they hope he increases his workload.
A team that has lost three in a row and is 3-16 in the last 19 games could get a boost from the three-time All-Star.
