All international flights have been suspended by Aeroflot, Rossiya, S7 and Azur Air.

Aeroflot

On Saturday, 5th March, Aeroflot announced that it would suspend all of its international flights from 8th March.

Four daily flights will be operated by Aeroflot. Many countries and aircraft manufacturers imposed sanctions on Russian airlines.

The Russian aviation agency recommended that Russian airlines not fly abroad with leased planes because of the risk of seizure. All flights from foreign destinations must be stopped on Monday.

This decision is Russia’s attempt to have its airlines illegally hold on to hundreds of aircraft that, under EU sanctions, must be returned back to owners

Russian airlines possess a high risk of having their planes seized at foreign destinations as the majority of those aircraft belong to lessors, with many aircraft belonging to lessors based in Ireland and Bermuda, headed by AerCap, the world's largest aircraft leasing company. Currently, 149 AerCap aircraft are in service with Russian airlines, as reported by ch-aviation.

Although the EU has banned all Russian aircraft, planes owned by the member state owners are allowed to enter the EU airspace as a scope of the sanctions. As a result of the recently imposed sanctions, the leasing firms have already terminated their agreements.

Aeroflot Fleet

There are 146 narrow-bodies and 41 wide-bodies in the Aeroflot fleet.

In the narrow-body segment, the Russian flag carrier operates 62 Airbus A320s, 35 A321s, 38 Boeing 737s and 11 SuperJet 100s. According to data from airfleets.net, Aeroflot flies 12 A330s, 7 A350s and 22 Boeing 777s in the wide-body segment. Aeroflot has 13 A350-900s on order from the European planemaker.

There were flights to destinations in the United States, Middle East, Asia and Europe. In addition to New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Miami in the United States, Aeroflot flew to many other cities before the sanctions were imposed.

S7 Airlines

All international flights at S7 have been canceled from Saturday, 5th March.

All flights to Europe from 26th February to 13th March were canceled by S7.

In the European Union, S7 had regular flights to destinations in Croatia, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, and France. In North Africa, it operated flights to Egypt and Jordan. S7's leased planes are likely to be seized abroad so it has canceled its international flights.

S7 Airlines Fleet

According to data from airfleets.net, S7 Airlines currently has an all narrow-body fleet of 106 aircraft, of which 4 are A319s, 48 A320s, 16 A321s, 21 Boeing griffons and 17 Embraer E170s. Most of the S7 Airlines aircraft are owned by western lessors such as AerCap and ALC.

Two Russian airlines, Pobeda and Ural Airlines, have already had their planes seized abroad.

Ural Airlines A319 is currently grounded in Dubai without operating the return segment to Krasnoyarsk, it is reportedly seized (unconfirmed).
