US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that Ukraine has a plan in place if Zelensky dies in the conflict with Russia.

Zelensky has been on the front lines of the Ukrainian defense against Russia despite reports of at least one assassination attempt and an attack near his presidential residence.

The Ukrainians have plans in place, but I am not going to talk about them or give any details on how they are going to make sure there is continuity of government one way or another. On "Face the Nation" on CBS News, Blinken told Margaret Brennan to leave it at that.

A Ukrainian security and defense chief said last week that Ukrainian forces had stopped an assassination plot against Zelensky with help from members of Russia's security services.

Zelensky made fun of Russians after a top aide claimed that a missile fragment fell near the presidential residence. Zelensky responded to the Ukrainian Press Secretary's post on Facebook that there was a piece of a missile near the presidential residence.

The world needs to be prepared for this conflict to last for some time despite sanctions against Russia from Western countries, even if Zelensky is dead. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

The major city of Kherson has been claimed by Russia since the initial attack. Ukrainian officials and human rights groups have accused Russia of war crimes.

President Putin is digging in on the aggression against Ukraine. That is continuing. I think we have to be prepared, unfortunately, tragically, for this to go on for some time.
