Jimmy Garoppolo helped lead the San Francisco 49ers to the playoffs this past season, and he has been linked to another team with his future in question.

Jeremy Fowler suggested the craziest rumor he heard at the NFL Scouting Combine was that Garoppolo was going to the New Orleans Saints.

He wrote that it would be a surprise since many around the league expect Jameis Winston to return to the Saints. Maybe New Orleans kicks this idea around.

49ers general manager John Lynch confirmed on Good Morning Football that Garoppolo is having shoulder surgery this summer and that there are health questions surrounding both of them.

The expectation is that Garoppolo will be able to start throwing before July 4. Despite the shoulder issue, there remains significant interest in the signal-caller around the league.

It's not a surprise that San Francisco is moving on from the veteran since it selected Lance with the 3rd overall pick of the draft. Lance is the future even if he didn't see a lot of playing time in his first season.

Garoppolo told reporters that he knew this would happen eventually.

While there are concerns about his overall ceiling, he completed 68.3% of his passes for 3,810 yards, 20 touchdown and 12 interceptions in the year of 2021, coming off a talented 49ers team that seemed to scheme around him at times.

He is a playoff-tested veteran who has been to the Super Bowl and is someone who could step into a formidable Saints offense that features a pair of running backs, and possibly get the ball into their hands and get out of the way like he did with Deebo Samuel.

New Orleans missed out on the playoffs last season, but would have made it if quarterback play had been as good as it was. He started in five of the six games he played, but the team failed to make the playoffs.

If the Saints decide to pursue Garoppolo this off-season, he will be a good fit because he's proven himself to be a good quarterback and has the ability to lead the team to a playoff spot.
