McDonald's and PepsiCo are among brands facing calls to cut business ties with Russia.

The New York state comptroller urged companies to rethink their Russian business operations because they face significant and growing legal, compliance, operational, human rights and personnel risks.

He said that suspending or ending business in Russia would address various investment risks associated with the Russian market, and would play a key role in condemning Russia's role in subverting the international order.

Insider did not get a response from McDonald's or PepsiCo when they asked for it outside of normal working hours.

The letter to boycott business in Russia was also sent to other companies.

Scores of companies have stopped or limited their commercial dealings with Russia since the invasion of Ukraine by the Russians.

Several major companies recently severed business ties with Russia. Russian vodka was removed from store shelves by some retail brands.
