According to Russian media, the Russian Defense Ministry has reported a cease-fire in two besieged Ukrainian cities.
A cease-fire is announced from 10:00 am Moscow time on March 5. The ministry said in a statement that humanitarian corridors are open for the exit of civilians from Mariupol and Volnovakha.
The cease-fire has not been officially recognized by the Ukrainian military.
The Mariupol City Council acknowledged the cease-fire and humanitarian corridor on their official Telegram channel.
The Mayor of Mariupol, Vadim Boychemko, issued a statement to the people of Mariupol, saying that the civilians in the city will be evacuated today. I have always said that Mariupol is not about streets and houses.
Mariupol is its inhabitants. We are with you. Our main task has always been to protect people. When Mariupol is under constant fire from the occupiers, there is no other option but to allow the residents to leave.
The city issued a huge request for drivers to leave the city to assist with the evacuated area. The time is 9 a.m.
The legitimacy of the humanitarian corridor is not immediately verified, with the Mariupol City Council adding in their Telegram channel that fighting is taking place in the Zaporozhye region, which forms part of the safe route.
The statement added that negotiations with the Russians to ensure a silence along the entire humanitarian corridor are ongoing.
The Russian offensive will continue in the rest of the country.
