As it starts rolling out its new state media policy, TikTok will put labels on videos from state-controlled media outlets. The company plans to pilot the policy due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to a news post. The company started working on the policy last year. The labels will start appearing within the next few days, according to the post.

The labels would be applied to at least some of the Russian state media accounts, but they didn't specify which ones or how many. At least one Russian state-controlled outlet has a verified account on TikTok. The labels would be visible after they roll out.

Platforms like YouTube and twitter have had state media labels for a while

Many social media platforms have had the same labels for a while now, and they started applying them in 2020.

In the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many platforms have moved against the content from Russian state-controlled media like Sputnik andRT.

The Russian government will block Facebook in its borders due to discrimination against Russian media and information resources.
