While it would be bad for his electric car company, sustainable energy solutions aren't immediately available enough to offset limited Russian oil and gas exports.

Musk wrote that sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react to make up for Russian oil and gas exports.

The US and many other countries have imposed sanctions on Russia. While sanctions were applied to banks and other financial institutions, countries did not sanction Russia's vital energy sector.

Russia's oil and gas exports are still declining, as international refiners and banks refuse to do business with the country.

Musk sympathized with Russians and expressed his support for the Ukrainian people.
