Will Smith was in the leading role in Warner Bros.' adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. According to Deadline, I Am Legend 2 has come together with some pretty serious star power, and that the ending of that film didn't leave much room for a sequel. Smith is slated to headline the sequel, but he will also appear with Michael B. Jordan. Both Smith and Jordan will be involved in the project.
Smith played a doctor in the first film who tried to cure cancer. Most of the human population were killed by the customized virus. Darkseekers are vampire-like creatures and the vast majority of the survivors have changed into them. Robert was one of the last remaining humans, and he lived a solitary existence as he tried to find a cure.
There is an inherent issue with the fact that Smith is reprising his role in the new film. At the end of the original movie, Robert sacrificed himself to let Anna Montez and a young boy escape from the Darkseekers. There was an alternate ending to the film on the DVD and Blu-ray.
There are no details about Jordan's character or the sequel's plot. The sequel will be written by Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the original film. The film is still early in its development, and the director has not been attached.
Outlier Society's Elizabeth Raposo, Jon Mone and Ryan Shimazaki, and Weed Road Pictures are all involved in the production of I Am Legend 2. James Lassiter will be the executive producer of the sequel.
