The second largest school district in North Carolina is investigating allegations that a bus driver offered $5 to students.

A group of Ridge Road Middle School students came home last month and told their parents that their bus driver gave them $5 to take a Covid-19 test.

As soon as her 8th graders told her what had happened, Dawn Thompson was suspicious.

She said that a Covid test is not done in your cheek.

Thompson wondered where the swabs went.

The bus driver collected saliva from students.

A district spokesman told NBC News on Friday that bus drivers are hired by the district.

The driver is suspended and an investigation is ongoing, according to a district statement.

Thompson and at least one other parent have filed police reports. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police didn't respond to requests for more information.
