The Russian government is trying to control the message on social media.

According to a March 4 official press release, Russia is going to block access to Facebook across the country. Only the Facebook platform appears to be the target of Russia, and at least for now.

The above restrictions are not allowed by Federal Law No. 272-FZ.

The Russian government is cracking down on social media companies. Russia's communications regulator accused Facebook of censoring state accounts and moved to restrict access to the platform as a result.

The Friday announcement suggests that previous efforts to crack down on social media had not worked or had gone far enough.
