According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the ClevelandBrowns will look to upgrade at receiver in free agency.

The team is interested in free agents Chris Godwin, Mike Williams, and Allen Robinson, and it will keep an eye on Dallas Cowboys receiver Amari Cooper. The Cowboys are likely to release Cooper this year, according to Adam Schefter.

The position for Cleveland is being changed.

Howe and Jackson reported that the Browns will not re-sign free agent Rashard Higgins, and that they are unlikely to agree to a restructured contract with Jarvis Landry. Spotrac says the squad can save $14.9 million by releasing a veteran.

The team has almost $30 million in projected cap space that could be used to improve the passing attack, which ranked 27th in the league last season.

The team did not finish with more than 600 receiving yards in 2021. Beckham Jr. couldn't get in sync with the new quarterback and was released in November, while the other receiver, LaRon Landry, set career lows with 52 catches for 570 yards and two scores.

Anthony Schwartz and Donovan Peoples-Jones are the only returning receivers. Both of them have just 58 career catches.

There is an opening for the team to sign a new receiver.

Someone who can make plays all over the field could be the best fit. The star set a career high with 98 catches last season for the Buccaneers, which was the 11th-best mark in the NFL. Over the last four years, he has been a reliable weapon near the line of scrimmage, and also excelled in the red zone with 28 touchdown catches.

Williams has a fourth place ranking among active players with his 16.1 yards per reception. He set a personal best with 1,146 yards in 2021, and can use his size to win 50/50 balls.

Though they have never been clear about their roles in Cleveland, both Godwin and Williams have the talent to do it.

Robinson and Cooper are both coming off disappointing seasons, so they would be riskier moves, but the Browns could end up getting great value for high-upside players.
