Russia's space agency has cut itself off from the international space community, with its head making a series of increasingly bizarre public communications, and the consequences may be starting to show.

During Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Rogozin made several inflammatory comments in response to Russia being targeted with new waves of economic sanctions.

As a result, the pressure is on. According to Russian state media, top figures at the agency have had their salaries slashed.

An anonymous source told RIA Novosti that Rogozin had cut his salary and payments to top managers.

The ruble cratered this week after the invasion of Russia, but Rogozin made just over a million dollars back in 2020.

The decision isn't going to financially ruin him, even though 30 percent sounds like a decent chunk of money. According to Ars Technica, Rogozin inflated his take- home in the years after he gave himself huge raises.

Consequences

Financial troubles are a direct result of the actions of Rogozin. The head of the space agency lashed out at the international space community over the last couple of days, going as far as to threaten the US and other spacefaring nations.

The agency burned bridges with Europe and demanded that the UK-based OneWeb give assurances that it wouldn't use its satellites to target Russia.

The Baikonur Cosmodrome was to be used to launch 36 broadband satellites. OneWeb was unaware that the launch was canceled.

It's not OneWeb that could be in danger of going bankrupt, as Rogozin suggested in a recent televised statement.

If anyone is in a stressed financial position, it is the company that has been isolating itself from some of its biggest clients.

Russia was accused of cutting the US off from its outdated rocket engines.
