Sources have told ESPN that a group led by Todd Boehly is close to making a formal offer to buy the club.

Boehly is working with Hansjorg Wyss and at least one other businessman to submit an official proposal ahead of the March 15 deadline imposed by New-York based firm Raine Group who have been appointed to take care of the sale.

There is a guide for viewers on ESPN+.

Roman Abramovich said on Tuesday night that he was going to sell his club, as tensions rose between Russia and the West over the invasion of Ukraine.

Chris Bryant, a Labour Member of Parliament, claims that a leaked Home Office document states that he is a person of interest in the case of the assets of high net worth individuals with portfolios in England.

According to sources,Abramovich wants at least three billion dollars for the club and although there is a chance he could be sanctioned, there is no immediate need to complete a sale.

We are not going to rush anything and we need the right owner to guide the club forward.

When contacted, a spokesman for Boehly did not respond to the question but sources said the opening offer would be similar to the one the American was interested in. At the time, Boehly held talks with both of them.

It is thought that Boehly, who is estimated to have a net worth of $4.7 billion, was prepared to pay around 2.2 billion for the club.

It would be difficult for a sale to go through if the UK government imposed sanctions on the Russian billionaire like the freeze of his assets in the European Union did.

According to sources, Raine have received a high number of inquiries and multiple bids are expected, which will hopefully drive up the price as negotiations continue.

Richard Masters said that new owners could be approved within 10 days.

He told the Financial Times Business of Football Summit that the fastest one he had ever done was 10 days.

Normally, it would take a number of weeks, but it all depends on the complexity of the deal and the number of potential owners.

The net proceeds of the sale will be donated to the victims of the conflict in Ukraine.
