The United Polaris Lounge has reopened. It is open from 6:30am to 10:30pm every day.

An updated menu in the restaurant section of the lounge includes fresh pressed juices, tuna poke, fish taco, and blood orange burgers.

The last Polaris Lounge to be reopened was at the airport. The latest location in Washington Dulles is now open.

There are new signs outside the Polaris Lounges in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The lounges will re-open, but they have not been released. One attendee at an invite-only event for high-spending MileagePlus elites in Los Angeles was told that SFO would open on January 4th.

The impact of the omicron variant on international travel could push those dates back further.

The Polaris Lounge will open at the Chicago O'Hare airport.

The United Airlines Polaris Lounge reopened in Newark today. It is open from dawn to dusk.

I am still hearing that Chicago and Houston will open next month, though United is tight-lipped on exact opening dates.

The new Polaris Lounge in Washington Dulles will be opened by United Airlines soon.

  • Chicago (ORD)
  • Houston (IAH)
  • Newark (EWR)

The information was confirmed by a United spokesman. This is the first time that United has said that the lounges will re-open in 2021.

Due to depressed demand for international travel from United's two west coast hubs, San Francisco and Los Angeles will not re-open immediately. Los Angeles International Airport will not open until more longhaul flights, like London and Melbourne, return.

It is good to know that four United Polaris Lounges will soon open.

Below is the original article.

If international demand continues to rebound, United Airlines will reopen three Polaris Lounges later this year.

When Will United Polaris Lounges Reopen?

Luc Bondar, the Vice President of Loyalty at United, told Live and Let's Fly that the airline hopes to open a trio of Polaris Lounges later this year.

Bondar did not name the airports, but he did say that the Polaris Lounge in Washington Dulles will soon be complete.

Alexander Dorrow, United's Managing Director of Lounges, has said in the past.

“It is stunning, not only aligned with the vision of Polaris, but also really localized for the Washington, DC market.”

My guess is that Newark, Washington, and Houston are the other two with San Francisco and Chicago rounding out the trio. The Polaris Lounge in Chicago would help with crowding as international travel returns. Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) continue to see depressed international traffic because of travel bans to Asia and Australia. SFO may resume flights to Asia by the end of the year, as it has seen a lot of traffic.

Dorrow also noted that.

“These lounges have a significantly longer lead time to re-open than United Clubs due to the scope, amenities, and training that is required.”

Before these lounges will open, United has not specified what metrics must be met or exceeded.

With extensive analysis and tracking of enplanements, customer types, flight schedules and city/country reopenings, the team can make thoughtful decisions on when and where to reopen a club.

In the meantime, United will continue to re-open United Clubs at its line stations, with these lounges set to open this month or already open again:

  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • Boston (BOS)
  • Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)
  • Orange County (SNA)
  • Raleigh-Durham (RDU)
  • San Antonio (SAT)
  • Washington National (DCA)

There will be more United Clubs in September.

CONCLUSION

Polaris Lounges at Washington Dulles and Newark should be re-opened because they are so short on flights to Europe. The bad news is that Polaris Lounges will be closed in 2021. The good news is that we still don't have a date, but we will re-open if travel continues to rebound as the delta variant rages.
