The release of the latest flagship phone from the company means we have another excellent iFixit teardown to enjoy, which gives a great look at the insides of the S22 and S22 Ultra.

The new vapor chamber for keeping the phone cool and the integration of the S Pen into the S22 Ultra are some of the things we can see from the teardown. iFixit notes that the S22 devices have a vibration motor built into the bottom speaker rather than the top one.

The component that takes up less internal space is what is being used to catch up to the performance of the Taptic Engine. The changes made to the motor were picked up on by Brownless, who found it harder to notice when he was in his pocket. Bummer.

It's bad news for device longevity and the environment that the flagship phones are a bit of a nightmare to repair. Although the internals of both phones are held together with standard Philips-head screws, their casings are stuck together with tough adhesive that is difficult to remove, and their batteries take a beating.

The result is a pair of three out of 10 scores for reparability, which is the same as last year's S21 Ultra, but represents a slight fall for the base S21 It is possible to do better without sacrificing the premium flagship feel of a device, as evidenced by last year's iPhone 13 Pro scoring six out of 10.
