She got in touch with Pete Davidson because she realized she was never paid for her work.

During an interview with Rolling Stone on Thursday, Tomei talked about working with Davidson on the 2020 movie.

She spoke to him that day.

I never got paid for that. Did you? In this age of transparency, can we talk? Tomei asked the associate editor of Rolling Stone. Representatives for Universal Pictures didn't respond to Insider's request for comment.

She said she had a good time making the movie despite not having a paycheck.

The Oscar winner plays a fictionalized version of Davidson's mother in a semi-autobiographical drama about the comedian's Staten Island upbringing. Davidson and Dave Sirus co-authored the script.

She said she was intimidated to be flanked by her co-stars in The King of Staten Island.

I am with all of these stand-ups. It was freeing. She told the publication that she changed how she approaches each character.
