According to 9to5Google, the dark mode for the search app is being tested. This new shade is not the same as the one presented in the test of a dark mode on the desktop. The one spotted in the mobile app is lighter in color than the usual dark gray. I had the dark gray search page on my desktop, but it switched back to the pitch-black page shortly after.

The new dark mode in the mobile app could be more attractive for devices withOLED displays that want to save battery life, or for people who prefer to use dark mode more. The new shade can be found in the latest version of the Play Store, as well as an archive that allows users to download items not readily available on their device.

In February of last year, the company confirmed that it was rolling out dark mode for its desktop users. Though you can access the app's new color shade on your own, a wider release could take months to get to more people officially, like the desktop release we just saw.
