As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, Reddit is going further than any other social media platform.

Russia Today (RT), Sputnik, and any other Russian state-run media outlet will not be allowed on the website. Links to these outlets will be banned across all of the platform's communities and across all geographies, because of this restriction.

This is the social sharing website's latest action in response to the conflict in Ukraine, although some subreddits already had a ban in place. The company's r/Russia and r/RussiaPolitics subreddits were placed in abeyance due to the spread of misinformation within those communities. Users who visit these communities will be welcomed with a warning if they post content that is not in line with the site's guidelines.

The move for a universal restriction on Russian state-run media is beyond what any other platform has done. Some social media services have demonetized. Others only allow access to the EU. It is a site-wide ban, regardless of location.

In addition to the link ban, the website shared that it is not accepting advertisements that target Russia or originate from any Russia-based entity, government or private.
