The Virginia Supreme Court denied a defamation lawsuit brought by a former congressman.

The Republican from Tulare who was one of the senior-most members of the GOP in the House until his resignation in December sued a Republican strategist named Liz Mair and the newspaper over a story. He sought $150 million from Mair in a case that was filed in Virginia.

An employee of Alpha Omega Winery is in a lawsuit against the business, which is owned by Nunes. The employee in the story said she was asked to work at a charity event on a yacht where the guests appeared to use drugs and hire prostitutes, which made her uncomfortable.

Mair was accused of spreading false information about him through the story. The lower court judge said that Mair did not collude with him.

The same thing was said by the high court.

The Court is of the opinion that there is no reversible error in the judgement, and that the argument submitted in support of and in opposition to the granting of an appeal was valid. The clerk wrote in the decision obtained by The Bee that the court refused the petition for appeal.

There is an opinion.

A judge in a different Virginia county dismissed a lawsuit that was filed against Mair. In that case, the judge found that Mair's statements were not defamatory, that she acted with malice, and that the words she used were not libelous.

When The Bee's parent company filed for bankruptcy in 2020, the suit against the newspaper was dropped.

Getting to the truth

If this was a sport, he would have some strikeouts.

These have been serious allegations. He tried to bully his way to an outcome that would intimidate anyone from crossing him in the future.

The courts are saying that the allegations have lacked merit.

The First Amendment and my rights of free speech were upheld by the court, Mair wrote in a statement to The Bee.

I hope that this judgement will deter other government and political figures from using litigation to stifle free speech. This lawsuit did not succeed in shutting me down, and should not be allowed to be used to silence other Americans who are exercising their rights to free speech.

The head of the social media enterprise just launched by Donald Trump is today's person. Truth Social was designed to be a conservative alternative to social media. It's obvious that the irony is there.

The lawsuits did not have anything resembling truth and honesty. Maybe he will take a more accurate view of what constitutes defamation, libel and truth now that he is in the media.
