Free at- home trials for its Bike, Bike Plus, and Tread are being extended from 30 to 100 days.
This is a limited-time offer for new customers who buy a Peloton machine between March 3rd, 2022, 5PM and March 22nd, 2022, 2:59AM. The program allows customers to buy a new Peloton device, try it for a little over three months, and then return the machine for a full refund if they don't like it. It will cover shipping fees, and returns will get free pickup. Once buyers confirm their orders, they will get immediate access to the Peloton app.
There is always fine print with these sorts of things. It's not available to customers who live in remote areas such as Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and so on. Credit card customers will have to pay the full price at the time of purchase. Those who qualify for financing will have to pay their first installments. The new promotion doesn't remove the delivery fee that was added after January 31st.
This isn't the first time that Peloton has extended its free trials. The trial period for the app was extended to 90 days. It was a move that made a lot of sense at the time, and this is no different, though the circumstances have changed a bit.
After experiencing a boom during the Pandemic, the company increased manufacturing to meet increased demand. The demand began to die off once the restrictions were lifted. There were rumors that Peloton was going to stop manufacturing because it had too many bikes and treadmills. John Foley denied the claim. The company had higher-than-normal inventory and was looking to improve its profit margins on hardware sales, according to the CFO.
Extending the trial is a smart move that will make potential customers more comfortable. It slots into the company's restructuring plan if it helps Peloton work down its inventory.
