The United States on Thursday announced a new round of sanctions against Russians who are supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Biden administration said that the new penalties include full blocking of sanctions on at least eight so-called Russian elites and visa restrictions on 19 Russian oligarchs.

The visas are being targeted in an effort to support Russia's destabilizing foreign policy.

The White House said that the Treasury Department will designate seven Russian entities and 26 Russia- and Ukraine-based individuals.

The White House said in a fact sheet that these individuals and their family members will be cut off from the U.S. financial system.

The sanctions imposed on Putin and those around him have had a profound impact, according to President Joe Biden.

The goal of cutting off access to technology as well as cutting off access to the global financial system is to maximize the impact on Putin and Russia and minimize the harm on us and our allies and friends.
