The Russian Football Union said it will appeal against the ban from international competition.

On Monday, Russian football clubs and national teams were suspended from all competition until further notice.

The union said it would file a lawsuit against the world and European governing bodies of football.

Russia wants the men's and women's teams to play in the World Cup play-offs next month and the Euro 2022, respectively.

Spartak Moscow was kicked out of the Europa League and will be facing RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals.

The Russian football authorities believe that Uefa did not have a legal basis for removing Russian teams.

More to come.
