Dynabook has a new 14-inch flagship called the Portégé X40L-K. The device will be on shelves in April. I'm curious how much it will cost, but I haven't seen a full breakdown of the configurations that will be offered.
Dynabook makes mind-blowingly light laptops. Some of the lightest models in the world are in the Port line. The X40L-K won't be the lightest 14-inch laptop on the market, but it will likely be close. Currently, there are a handful of 14-inchers that weigh less than 2.2 pounds, but that's such a small percentage. The Swift 7 has not been refreshed in a few years.
Thinness isn't everything for most shoppers. While a number of companies are zeroing in on sub 3 pound laptops this year, they are cutting various corners to achieve that weight. We have seen port selections shrink. We will have to wait for the review process to find out where Dynabook has chosen to compromise.
Dynabook claims you won't see issues with sturdiness. Drop tests, pressure testing, and the like are included in the standards of the device.
Dynabook says the Port will be certified through the Intel badge of honor. The 12th Gen P-Series i5 and i7 will be included. It's not a graphics card option, it's an integrated graphics card from Intel.
There are four ports, two of which are Thunderbolt 4. External displays can be supported. Blue-light reduction technology is included in the display which is 16:10. At this price point, it's a good sign that the speakers support Dolby Atmos audio.
The battery is only 65Wh, which makes me a bit nervous, but since I haven't tested many of the new 12th Gen chips yet, I'll reserve judgement until the review process is over.
Dynabook Online Meeting Assist uses artificial intelligence to ensure faces are bright and visible in the wide spectrum of lighting conditions. There are dual-array microphones that are relevant to conference callers.
The company is refreshing some of its 13-inch models. Both devices have 12th Gen Intel chips. The models will start at over a thousand dollars.
