Kirk Baily in Salute Your Shorts

Baily died. Baily was best known for his role as camp counselor Kevin in the 90s sitcom Salute Your Shorts. Baily died this week of lung cancer, which he was diagnosed six months ago. He was 59 years old.

Baily got his start in the entertainment industry in New York, providing English voices for minor characters in a variety of shows in the Gundam universe of robot-battling TV. The English version of Cowboy Bebop, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and Trigun all featured his voice.

Baily's first job in the world of non-anime TV or film production wasn't Salute Your Shorts, but as a sound assistant on a cult classic. Baily created a character who was deeply sympathetic to the kids watching the show, but also had a lot of power over the campers. He is, if nothing else, the reason that giraffe's tongues are black.

Baily's voice can be heard in Frozen, Big Hero 6, and other big-budget animated blockbusters, even after Salute Your Shorts went off the air in 1992. He continued to keep in touch with his old Shorts co-stars even after he stopped working as a drama teacher and coach.
