Jim Boeheim said that there is a plan in place for when he leaves Syracuse.

Boeheim did not reveal any details of the arrangement because it could have an effect on recruiting. He expects to have a say in the selection of his replacement, since the university will decide when to make it public.

Boeheim said there was a plan.

Boeheim is the second-winningest coach in Division I history with 997 victories, behind only Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, but he is nearing the end of his 46th season at the helm. He intends to coach with a few freshmen next season.

If I said I was quitting now, it would look like they had a bad year, so he was just going to quit. Maybe not. Maybe not to someone else. I would think that he is going to quit because the players are having a bad year.

Syracuse will play Miami in the Carrier Dome on Saturday in the final game of the season. Boeheim has never had a losing season.

Boeheim said that he was trying to leave the program in the best position that it could be when he left.

This is the second plan for Boeheim. When Syracuse was hit with NCAA sanctions in 2015, Boeheim had 101 of his victories taken away, but Mike Hopkins was designated to succeed him. Instead, after 25 years with the program as a player and a coach, he left in March of last year when he was offered the job at Washington and Boeheim continued to coach the Orange.
