After fleeing war-torn Ukraine, Maksim Chmerkovskiy made it to safety in the United States and just got back with his wife at the airport. You can see that he is happy to see his partner, Peta Murgatroyd, after a harrowing experience in Europe. Maksim was in the middle of war, and he says he is still trying to process what happened. It is scary. Maksim says he was told to get a gun and watch videos on how to use an AK-47, but instead he used his phone as a weapon. Maksim wished Putin a similar fate as Hitler. It is the culmination of a long journey for Maksim as he flees his native Ukraine and the Russian invasion. Maksim shared a video of himself on a balcony in the capital while sirens blared around him on his social media accounts. Maksim spent time in a bomb shelter as Russian forces surrounded the city and boarded a train for Poland. He says he witnessed a boy say goodbye to his dad on the train to Warsaw. Maksim boarded a plane from Poland about 16 hours ago and is now in the USA. Maksim is thanking everyone in his country who took up arms, the neighboring countries, and the news media for their support.
