Roman Abramovich said Wednesday that he will sell the club.

I have always taken decisions with the best interests of the club in mind.

The Russian businessman decided to donate the net proceeds of the sale to the victims of the war in Ukraine.

He accepted a request from the Ukrainians to participate in the peace talks.

He gave control of the club to the trustees of the foundation. The sale will not be fast-tracked, although he is preparing to sell the team.

The value of the club has grown over the past two decades, despite the fact that Abramovich purchased it in 2003 for 140 million dollars. According to Forbes, the value of the club was $3.2 billion in 2021. Over the past five years, it has grown in value 93 percent.

According to James Olley, the club is worth 3 billion dollars.

The club has had great success since Roman Abramovich bought it, winning the European Championship in 2012 and the English premier league five times. The Blues won the Club World Cup last month and are a top contender for the title again in 2022.

It pains me to part with the club in this way, but I believe this is in the best interest of the club.
