Following Wednesday's United Nations vote condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine, one can easily imagine a scenario in which friends just can't be found.

141 countries voted in favor of the resolution condemning Russian aggression, while 34 abstained and five voted against, according to The New York Times.

The result was in line with the international support for Ukraine seen in the past week. In London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, Cape Town, and many other cities, there were pro-Ukraine demonstrations. Many lawmakers wore Ukrainian flag pins during the State of the Union address by President Biden.

The no votes on the resolution came from five authoritarian nations, including Russia and North Korea.

Russia is the 115th freest country on earth according to the 2020 Human Freedom Index. The country barely makes the top 100. Syria is the 10th least free country in the world. The two one-party dictatorships of North Korea and Eritrea are not ranked.

Iraq, Iran, India, Pakistan, and China abstained from the vote. In February, China and Russia released a joint statement that condemned NATO expansion but did not mention Ukraine.
