You won't like the outcome if you try to play Destiny 2 on your new steam deck. The game will not be allowed to be played from a Steam Deck or other SteamOS device if players try to circumvent the restriction. PC players need an active copy of Windows.

Initially, Bungie didn't say why it forbids Steam Deck use. The company has been asked for comment. It shouldn't have anything to do with Sony's plans to acquire Bungie. The studio is still independent, and CEO Pete Parsons said that game development would continue for multiple platforms.

The decision might be based on code integrity. The Season of the Lost was the first game to feature BattlEye anti-cheat technology. While BattlEye worked with Valve to add support in the anti-cheating implementation, that doesn't mean they were satisfied with it. The user speculated that the open system boot approach still allowed for cheating.

If you're a fan of the game, the news won't be good. If you want to fight the Darkness from a handheld PC, you will either have to install Windows on your Steam Deck or buy an alternative like the Aya Neo or GPD Win 3. This is not a complete shock. D2 is one of the more prominent examples of a game not running on the steam deck.
